I haven’t done a ton of Ryder Cup Research, and I haven’t followed a lot of golf recently. However, I do want some rooting interest in the Ryder Cup so let’s have some fun and make some picks in the Ryder Cup market. I like the idea of taking a stab at some bets before pairings are released, but not getting too crazy yet.
Team USA:
Scottie Scheffler – He will be overvalued, I’m not sure he is the best player on team USA in this format. I don’t like his potential pairing partners.
Patrick Cantlay – He is very good and has a pre-established matchup.
Xander Schauffele – He is the matchup, but Cantlay is the stronger of the two.
Brooks Koepka – He could easily be the best on Team USA. I will always back him on this stage.
Collin Morikawa – He is always going to be a great player in this format.
Max Homa – I could see him collapsing, I could see him being captain America. I don’t know what to expect.
Jordan Spieth – Getting paired with Justin Thomas may hurt his value here.
Justin Thomas – I don’t want to bet aggressively against him, I’m rooting for him, but I don’t want to be backing him.
Rickie Fowler – He doesn’t handle pressure well, I bet him to score zero points.
Sam Burns – He could get paired with Scottie which would help his value.
Wyndham Clark – I don’t see any value on him
Brian Harmon – He probably has the best value of anyone in the field.
Predicted Pairings:
Cantlay / Schaufflee
Speith / Thomas
Koepka / Morikawa
Scheffler / Burns
Homa / Harmon
Fowler / Clark
Team Europe:
Rory McIlroy – He is the leader and the best golfer here.
Viktor Hovland – He should play all 5 matches and could do very well
Jon Rahm – He has just as much of a chance to dominate this tournament as anyone.
Tommy Fleetwood – The market values him more highly than I do.
Tyrell Hatton – I could see him playing 5 times more than anyone else in this range.
Matt Fitzpatrick – I don’t see a lot of value on him in this format.
Justin Rose – I feel like he will get a good pairing and will perform very well in this format. Some great value.
Ludvig Aberg – He is a generational talent, why not take a shot with him.
Shane Lowry – He doesn’t have the game or fitness for me to want to back him, but he does love the format. Don’t see him playing much.
Sepp Straka – I don’t want to support him here.
Nicolai Hojgaard – He is the best long shot value on the European side.
Robert MacIntyre – I won’t be backing him either.
Predicted Pairings:
McIlroy / Rose
Rahm / Fitzpatrick
Hovland / Aberg
Lowry / Hatton
Fleetwood / Hojgaard
Straka / MacIntyre
